an decent sci-fi movie with...

... some great action scenes (my favourites? the fight on the campus and above all, the transformation of Banner/Norton into Hulk in doctor Stern's laboratory... that last scene is really a great sci-fi moment). I should add to this that the special effects are really awesome too. The acting? Not bad at all but i agree that Edward Norton is under-used... Tim Roth is really convincing in the role of the bad guy and William Hurt is credible as the general Ross... Liv Tyler isn't that bad as Betty Ross...

The directing is classical and not very innovative but still entertaining and breath-taking. Melodrama is reduced to the minimum and the hulk is often really scary... Letterier was obviously focused on a 95% "in your face" action-oriented pack and the Incredible Hulk is just that.

My notation? 3,5 stars...

More Smash out of Hulk

Now I liked Ang Lee's Hulk and I enjoy this version as well. To be honest I can't decide between the two, which is a better film. I believe that both movies stand alone strongly and neither is the right version. However, this film has a much more broad potential for a franchise or Avengers spinoff. It was a much more fun approach and definetly more action-based.

Ang Lees Hulk, I think survived because of its cast and epic proportion. What didn't work was the Comic panel frames. There were few people that appreciated that creation. The action worked and the story worked, but It was just too much length and emotion for its viewers.

What works in this film is its simplicity and comic relief for the audience, as well as performances by Edward Norton and Tim Roth. Also the creativity in the action sequences was much appreciated. I think I was drawn more to Connelly's portrayal of Betty rather than Liv Tyler's but I'm happy that no one in this film did a horrible job. I think the majority would say that the pace and action of this film is way more enjoyable.

Our special features do their justice. I certainly got to see a million behind the scenes episodes, which is good. The U-Control feature was a little tedious and I hope it's revised in the future releases. Other than that I was glad to pick up my Blu-Ray version. This is a great quality delivering Blu-Ray.

So I reccomend this film to collectors and viewers alike. Expect a lot of smashing and crashing and you will not be let down by this film. Thank you Leterreir for stepping it up.

better than the one in 2003

I was never a fan of Hulk. The TV series used to scare the daylights outta me as Bruce Banner was morphing into the Hulk. (And people wonder why I love Wonder Woman.) Ang Lee's Hulk in 2003 was a huge disappointment! Those comic book panels didn't sit well with me and the CGI was laughable.

I was hesitant as I saw this movie. Hmmm...not bad. The storyline continues from 2003. Banner is in hiding, somewhere in South America, and is working in a factory. Meanwhile, he has been emailing with someone in search of a treatment for his exposure to gamma radiation. This contact, we only know him as Mr. Blue.

General Ross, with help, discovers Banner's hiding place and sends a team, headed by Emil Blonsky to capture him. Of course, Banner, as Hulk, is unstoppable and is able to get away. After this escape, as Banner, he reunites with Betty Ross.

Not one to be discouraged, Blonsky continues his search. However, Ross tells Blonsky about a special serum that could give him super soldier strength. Blonsky asks for the injection and his next confrontation with the Hulk becomes interesting.

In search for answers, Banner and Betty finally meet Mr. Blue, who is really a research professor, Dr. Sam Sterns. Sterns is able to synthesize an antidote. However, Banner and Betty disagree with Sterns' mission for the antidote and persuade Stern to destroy the supply. Unexpectedly, Blonsky arrives and forces Stern to inject him with this antidote. Of course, things go wrong and Blonsky becomes Abomination, who seems to be much bigger than Hulk.

And it's the fight of all fights.

The storyplot...ok. Special effects...ok. I just get bored with these angry men/creatures fighting like primitives.

P.S. - At the end, you'll see Tony Stark (aka Ironman) approaching General Ross about assembling a team. If you're current with Hollywood gossips and news, The Avengers is next (slated for 2011). However, not before Ironman 2 and a Wolverine movie. Apparently, Spider-Man, Ironman, Hulk and Wolverine will be the Avengers. (I'm already disappointed with the team lineup. No Thor? No Spiderwoman? No Black Widow? No Hawkeye? No She-Hulk? And if you know your comics, Wolverine isn't an Avengers. He's an X-Man. Hulk isn't a team player. And Spider-Man is a soloist.)
